Learn to make this tropical Pina Colada Kefir Smoothie at home with four simple ingredients! Made with prebiotic milk kefir and with a refreshing taste of pineapple and coconut, this creamy smoothie will be a favorite.

Kefir smoothies are always a go to in our house for a probiotic drink. While my staple is our Berry Protein Smoothie for my kids, they are loving this Pina colada one!

It is also a great one for popsicles in the summer time!

What is Kefir?

Kefir is a cultured milk product, very similar to yogurt. It is made by adding cultures called Kefir grains to raw milk and letting them culture the milk at room temperature for 8 – 24 hours.

The product after the culturing time is called Kefir. After straining the Kefir grains, you can drink it as is or use in smoothies!

Is this a dairy free smoothie?

No, it is not, BUT it can be!

I use my raw milk kefir for the smoothie, and not coconut milk kefir, so it is not dairy free.

The coconut cream I use is to add the coconut flavor for an authentic pina colada taste.

Can you use coconut milk kefir?

Yes, you can!

You can make a coconut milk kefir that would make this smoothie a dairy free smoothie!

Following similar processes to making raw milk kefir, you would have put kefir grains into coconut milk and let it culture.

What do you need to make kefir smoothies?

To make this Pina Colada Kefir smoothie, you will need:

  • A blender (I love our Ninja blender!)
  • Kefir – your own, or store bought (we prefer the Lifeway brand, if store bought)
  • Frozen pineapple
  • Coconut Cream
  • Honey
  • Collagen peptides (optional, if wanting to add more protein)

How do you make a pina colada kefir smoothie?

First, assemble your ingredients.

Ingredients including frozen pineapple in a measuring cup, a can of coconut cream, kefir in a measuring cup, and honey in a jar for Pina Colada Kefir Smoothies.

Place the kefir in the blender, and add coconut cream, frozen pineapple, honey and collagen peptides (if adding).

Blend until smooth and serve!

Smoothie tips

  • 1. Use a very mild milk kefir for this smoothie (culture toward the 8 hour mark). A very strong tasting kefir will overpower the coconut taste.
  • 2. If you prefer more coconut taste, add more coconut cream.
  • 3. You can use fresh pineapple instead of frozen, but add a few ice cubes in the smoothie to make it colder.
